With sixteen years in the business and a portfolio of over thirty titles on most major platforms, Tantalus is one of the world’s leading independent development studios. Renowned for handheld work on franchises such as SpongeBob, MX vs ATV, Cars and the million-unit-selling Pony Friends, Tantalus also develops for the current generation of consoles. The next phase of growth and platform diversification will see the release of the company’s second Wii title, the addition of next gen handhelds and more digital distribution projects. Tantalus employs over 60 developers at its Melbourne studio.


Tantalus began life as a conversion house, adapting coin-op titles to console and PC. Despite tough schedules and impossible deadlines, Tantalus soon earned a reputation for consistency and reliability. Manx TT Superbike became a star attraction on the Sega Saturn while Area 51, The House of the Dead and Maximum Force rate among the other critical and commercial successes of those early years. Titles such as Monster Truck Madness helped Tantalus build a reputation as a world-leading developer on Game Boy Advance, culminating in the highly acclaimed Nintendo-published Top Gear Rally winning IGN Game of the Year.

Drift Street International coming to Europe!

Tantalus is thrilled to announce its first ever game for Nintendo DSi, Drift Street International, launches in Europe on the 13th of August.
Gamers slide their tightly-tuned performance cars around challenging city streets, facing off against aggressive AI or up to four friends.

Tantalus at E3

2010's trade show in Los Angeles was the sixteenth E3 attended by Tantalus. This year we announced a major new title, Megamind, which featured prominently at the THQ booth on the show floor. Our upcoming DS title Legend of the Guardians was also shown behind closed doors, while we continued to promote our DSiWare title Drift Street International. All this plus the launch of Nintendo's new handheld platform, the 3DS.

Announcing Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole

Tantalus is happy to announce its latest DS title, Legend of the Guardians. The game is based on the upcoming Zach Snyder directed film from Warner Bros. Pictures, in association with Village Roadshow Pictures. On DS, gamers will take control of an Owl in full flight, with gameplay enhanced by an array of attack and combat moves. The title is set to release in the Fall, more details to follow.
